Departmental Scholarships
The University’s academic colleges and departments offer scholarships to students who are majoring or taking classes in the following subject areas:
Washington Resident Merit-Based Awards
Crimson First-Year Award
Awarded to first-year students based on unweighted, cumulative high school GPA.
To receive this in-state award, you must enroll as a first-time, incoming student for at least 12 credits each semester. The Crimson Award has four different award tiers, based on GPA.
- Crimson Promise Award: $500 per year (0.0 – 2.99 GPA)
- Crimson Advantage Award: $2,000 per year (3.0 – 3.29 GPA)
- Crimson Scholars Award: $3,000 per year (3.3 – 3.74 GPA)
- Crimson Distinguished Award: $4,000 per year (3.75 – 4.0 GPA)
Tri-Cities Transfer Coug Award
Awarded to transfer students based on unweighted, cumulative high school GPA.
To receive this in-state award, you must enroll as a transfer student with a minimum 3.5 unweighted GPA and at least 27 semester (40 quarter) credits. $2,000 is automatically award per year for a total of $8,000 over four years.
Cougar Commitment
ºÚÁÏÉç has committed to covering tuition and mandatory fees for most Washington residents who could not otherwise afford to attend.
Non-Resident Merit-Based Awards
Cougar First-Year Award
Awarded to first-year and transfer students based on unweighted, cumulative high school and/or college GPA.
The Cougar First-Year Award has four different award tiers, based on GPA.
- Cougar Advantage Award: $5,000 per year (0.0 – 3.3 GPA)
- WUE Cougar Scholars Award: $12,000 per year (3.3 – 3.74 GPA)
- WUE Cougar Distinguished Scholars Award: $15,000 per year (3.75 – 4.0 GPA)

ºÚÁÏÉç wants students to have access to scholarships, including from external organizations. Due to the vast number of scholarship opportunities available, students are encouraged to utilize external search engines or lists, such as those listed below, to access scholarships for students based on a wide number of factors, including study areas and personal characteristics.
If you are aware you will be receiving a scholarship from a non-ºÚÁÏÉç or non-State of Washington donor, please give the to the donor as soon as you are aware of the award. They can send the form and check together to the Bursar’s Office, and it will help them designate how the scholarship is to be applied to your student account.
